Welsh Government sets out plans to create a Wales accessible to all

The Welsh Government’s Equalities Minister, Jane Hutt, has launched a consultation on the Welsh Government’s Framework for Action on Independent Living for Disabled People.

The Framework sets out how the Welsh Government, local public services and other partners can all take action to help disabled people in Wales to live independently and exercise the same choices as everybody else. The consultation has been published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the publication of a letter to the Guardian, on 20 September 1972, by Paul Hunt, which sparked the beginning of the disability rights movement in the UK.

The Framework outlines a practical agenda covering: access to transport, housing, employment, technology and public and private facilities. It also highlights how services must be designed to be accessible and welcoming to everyone.
