Swansea East AM Mike Hedges has today welcomed the commitment outlined by Welsh Labour’s Education Minister, Leighton Andrews, towards tackling cyber-bullying in all forms.
In 2009, the results of the bullying survey commissioned by the Welsh Labour Government showed cyber-bullying to be one of the most prevalent forms of bullying amongst children and young people in Wales.
In response to these findings and the growing challenges faced by schools in tackling cyber-bullying, the Welsh Government published comprehensive new guidance, Respecting Others, last year, and organised a number of events across Wales for teachers and other education professionals. Ahead of Anti-bullying Week in Wales, which will run from 19th-23rd November, the Minister called on all schools to firmly embed their anti-bullying policies and explained how the Welsh Government would support them in this work.
