Swansea East AM Mike Hedges has today welcomed the news that a former councillor and human rights advisor has been named as the new Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales.
Sophie Howe, who currently works as a special advisor to the Welsh Government’s Minister for Local Government and Communities, has been appointed by Police and Crime Commissioner Alun Michael to act as his second-in-command in the police force, which covers the Swansea area.
Speaking on the news, Swansea East AM Mike Hedges said:
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Sophie since entering the Assembly in 2011 and I’m delighted to hear that she’s been appointed as the new Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales.
“Sophie has a strong track record in the fields of crime, justice, community safety and human rights. Her knowledge and experience will undoubtedly be an asset to the force.
“I look forward to working with both Sophie and Police Commissioner Alun Michael in our collective priorities of protecting front line policing and ensuring that the streets and communities of Swansea are a safe place for everyone.”
