Swansea East Assembly Member Mike Hedges is today calling on Swansea residents to support local businesses and independent traders this Christmas by shopping locally this coming Saturday.
The encouragement to shop local on Saturday 7th December, traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year, is part of the UK-wide “Small Business Saturday” campaign, which is designed to highlight the importance of supporting local independent businesses as well as give retailers the opportunity to showcase their products to local customers.
Speaking ahead of Swansea’s “Small Business Saturday”, local AM Mike Hedges said:
“Shopping in local businesses and retailers is key when it comes to supporting our Welsh town and city centres. Small and independent enterprises are the lifeblood to the local economy and help to support many local jobs, which is why I’m encouraging Swansea residents to do their bit this Saturday in the run up to Christmas by shopping local.”
Economy Minister Edwin Hart said:
“This first Saturday in December is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year in the run up to Christmas and a great opportunity for people to support their local community and local economy by using local independent traders.
“There are literally tens of thousands of small businesses in Wales, all offering great products and great services and I would urge everyone to make a concerted effort to support these independent businesses starting on Small Business Saturday.”
