To mark Carers Week 2013, Swansea East AM Mike Hedges has today paid tribute to the “remarkable and enormous contribution” carers across the City make in caring for and looking after friends and family with a serious illness.
Carers Week is an annual campaign which is designed to highlight and celebrating the contribution made by carers as well as improve the lives of the people they care for.
This year’s theme for the week is ‘Prepared to Care”, which focuses on how the UK’s current caring population is coping and on how effectively the Government is supporting the ever growing numbers of carers.
Speaking at the start of Carers Week 2013, Swansea East AM Mike Hedges said:
“Every day at least 6,000 people start caring for a loved one. Becoming a carer can have a massive impact on a person’s life – it takes time, energy, and can be a burden both financially and on other family relationships.
“It’s imperative that we recognise the remarkable and enormous contribution carers make in supporting loved ones, and also encourage employers to support them as much as possible in their caring duties.”
