Local AMs Mike Hedges and Julie James have today welcomed figures realised by the Welsh Government that show 100 people living in the Swansea area have found new job opportunities through the Jobs Growth Wales scheme since the programme was introduced in April 2012.
As well as creating job opportunities for unemployed young people, the posts created by Jobs Growth Wales are additional to the workforce and therefore helping Welsh businesses to expand. Participants are paid at or above the National Minimum Wage for a minimum of 25 hours per week.
In a joint statement, Mike Hedges AM & Julie James AM, said:
“We’re delighted that jobseekers are finding work through Welsh Labour’s Jobs Growth Wales programme. The creation of this initiative was one of the Welsh Government’s key pledges at last year’s Assembly election and we are delighted that the initiative is now delivering for people and businesses across Swansea.
“While the UK Government continues to strangle the economy with its savage spending cuts, the Welsh Government has gone down a different route, and is focused on investing in the economy and jobs.”
