Mike Hedgfes AM elcomes £4.5m for new ambulance dispatch technology
Welsh Labour’s Health Secretary Vaughan Gething has agreed funding of £4.48 million during this financial year for a new computer dispatch system for ambulances in Wales.
Mike said.. ‘I welcome this new investment in the WAST. I get regular correspondence from people concerned with ambulance response times. This new resource will greatly improve ambulance response times. It underlines the commitment of the Welsh Labour Government to ongoing improvements to the health service.’
This funding will enable the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAST) to replace their existing computer aided dispatch system with a modern state of the art system which will further improve ambulance response times. The new system will ensure:
- Faster response times to the highest priority immediately life threatening calls.
- Improved efficiency in the identification and dispatch of the most appropriate resource.
- Improved co-ordination of large-scale events, major incidents and capacity management across NHS Wales.
It will also enable the Trust to provide partners with high quality and timely information and work together to improve and shape services and allow WAST to better monitor performance and focus improvements.Wales has seen real improvements in ambulance response times, leading the way in the UK.
