MIKE HEDGES WELCOMES NEW RAIL FRANCHISE ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALLS FOR BETTER SERVICES FOR LLANSAMLET AND A NEW STATION CLOSE IN LANDORE.
Mike said……. ‘This new franchise deal is great news for Wales, with a massive investment in new rolling stock and in enhanced facilities at Railway Stations. I hope that Llansamlet station will benefit as a station exclusively served by the new Franchise. I hope that this will include better Sunday services. People will be aware that I have long been a supporter of a station in Landore which will assist fans getting to the Liberty Stadium and should lead to fewer car journeys to and from the stadium there by addressing the huge parking problems in the area on Match days. I hope that the new consortium will look sympathetically at suggestions for a new station in Landore.’
The New Franchise for trains within Wales has been won by KeolisAmey. An arm’s length not for Profit Company with a remit to put passengers’ key priorities at the centre, with a focus on alleviating concerns around seat capacity, journey times and service frequency and ensure fair, affordable fares and quality, clean trains.
With £738m in the south Wales Metro, a further £800m in new rolling stock and almost £200m in modernising all 247 stations, the ODP will be driving a nearly £2 billion investment programme that will bring about transformation to communities and people the length and breadth of Wales and its borders.
