Mike Hedges MS welcomes the reply of First Minister to his question asking for an update on the use of snares in Wales
Speaking from his Morriston office, Local MS, Mike Hedges said… ‘I welcome the answer from the First Minister; I am fully committed to ending the use of Snares within Wales at the earliest opportunity. We know from Government research that 75% of animals caught in Snares were not the intended targets and included many household pets.
It is a barbaric way of controlling animals, especially when their use if often associated with managing the habitat of game birds which are bred to be shot for pleasure.
I look forward to supporting and voting for the ban on the use of Snares in Wales at the earliest opportunity.’
- Mike Hedges (Swansea East): Will the First Minister provide an update on the use of snares in Wales? (OQ57583)
First Minister: The Manifesto on which the Member and I stood for election last May contained a commitment to ban the use of snares in Wales. Our intention is that it should be contained in the Agriculture Bill which the Government will bring before the Senedd in our first year legislative programme.
