Swansea East AM and former Morriston Councillor Mike Hedges has today warmly welcomed the news that a well-used community library in Swansea is set to get a funding boost of £218,000 thanks to a grant from the Welsh Government.
The capital funding, announced earlier today by Culture and Sports Minister John Griffiths, is part of the Welsh Government’s programme of modernising ageing facilities in libraries, archives and museums throughout Wales.
Other libraries that will also benefit from this latest round of funding include community libraries in Canton, Cwmbran, Bridgend, Newtown and Haverfordwest.
Speaking on the announcement, Mike Hedges said:
“As both the local AM and as a regular visitor to Morriston Library, I’m delighted with today’s substantial funding boost to improve and modernise the facilities at this well-used community library.
“Local libraries, like Morriston, play a significant role in our communities. They not only provide us with equal access to information and knowledge, but also act as place for local groups and individuals to meet.
“It’s important that we invest to modernise our library facilities and building as well as our library services so that they are fit for the twenty first century.”
