Swansea East AM Mike Hedges has today chosen a winning Christmas card design, after pupils from one Swansea school had the chance to come up with a festive design to be used as the Assembly Member’s official Christmas card.
This year, Swansea’s newest amalgamated school, Burlais Primary, was chosen by Mr Hedges to host the Christmas card competition.
Earlier today, Mike visited Burlais Primary School to congratulate all pupils on their outstanding entries and to announce year 6 pupil Abbie Kern as the winner of the competition.
Speaking from Burlais Primary School, Mike Hedges said:
“Due to the success of last year’s Christmas card competition, I decided to hold the competition once again to allow one local primary school the chance to design the front cover of the Christmas card that I’ll be using as the local Assembly Member.
“I’m grateful that Burlais Primary School agreed to take part this year and would like to thank the Headteacher, Mrs Alison Bastion, for organising the competition. I would especially like to thank all pupils at Burlais Primary School for taking the time and effort to participate in this competition. I received some outstanding entries this year and deciding a winner was a tough choice, however I thought that Abbie’s card design was of an exceptionally high standard.”
Mrs Alison Bastion, Headteacher at Burlais Primary School, said:
“As a newly amalgamated school we were delighted to be involved in creating the design for our Assembly Member. The children all enjoyed participating in the competition and it seems that we have many talented young artists at Burlais Primary School.”
