Boost for Swansea’s Boulevard project

Swansea’s Boulevard project has received a boost with the announcement of over £1.2 million funding from the Welsh Government’s Regeneration Area programme, bringing the Welsh Government’s contribution to the Waterfront City EU Convergence scheme up to £6 million.

The Boulevard scheme is aiming to create a vibrant tree lined city street which allows the connection of the City Centre to the Maritime Quarter and provides an effective balance between its role as the main road into the City Centre and an inviting pedestrian route. It is part of a physical regeneration initiative with a total value of £32m to support economic growth and address deprivation within Swansea City Centre.

The project, which is led by Swansea Council, has been underway for some time and advanced works, such as work to the Tawe Bridges and improvements to traffic information systems, have already been completed. The council is currently working on the detailed design of the Boulevard and is holding a series of drop-in sessions for members of the public and stakeholders to review the project. Work is due to start on the scheme early in 2013.
