MIKE HEDGES AM URGES PEOPLE TO BE VIGILANT AND REPORT ANY CONCERNS RE SCAMS.
Speaking after two men were jailed at Swansea Crown Court following a man in his 60s being conned into handing over more than £16,000 after rogue traders claimed it was for work on his property, Mike Hedges AM said…..
‘ I am pleased that these men have been jailed following this horrendous incident. Through my work as Chair of the Assembly Cross Party Group on Older people and Ageing, I have met people who have been the victim of Scams and the impact it has on their lives can be serious and extend well beyond the simple financial loss. I hosted a National Forum on Scams at the Liberty Stadium in October 2018 and attendees heard about the work being undertaken locally to combat scams – and this case shows that the work being undertaken by South Wales Police is having an effect.
If you or you know of anyone who might be the victim of scammers please, please report it to Trading Standards and or the Police. You will be supported and not made to feel foolish. It is through the reporting of such incidents that Police and Trading Standards Depts. can win the battle against scammers.’
