MIKE HEDGES AM WELCOMES ADDITIONAL £20 MILLION FOR SOCIAL CARE
Welsh Labour’s Finance Secretary Mark Drakeford has announced that the Welsh Labour Government will invest an additional £20 million in social care in 2017-18.
Mike Hedges AM said… ‘This is great news for people who may need to access social care in wales, and in Swansea East. Aging populations are putting increased demands on services and carers; this extra funding will go some way to easing the worries of people who will either be in need of social care themselves or families supporting people in need of care.’
Despite the cuts imposed to the Welsh budget by the Tory UK Government, Welsh Labour has continued to prioritise funding for social care and support the sustainability of the sector.
The extra funding is on top of the £25 million previously announced for social care through the Revenue Support Grant and £10 million to help meet workforce cost pressures.
It brings the additional investment for social care in Wales to £55 million in 2017-18, which is in line with the extra investment made in social care in England.
The Welsh Labour Government has also invested £60 million through its Intermediate Care Fund to support the integration of health and social care.
