Swansea East AM, Mike Hedges is getting ready for World Book Day by arranging visits to local schools where he will both listen to children read and read to children.
Mike said.. I grew up on the ‘Just William’ stories of Richmal Compton which covered the adventures of William Brown, an 11 year old school boy who was forever getting into scrapes with his best mate Ginger and their friends in the ‘outlaw’ gang. Although it is probably 50 years since I first read these books, I remember them very vividly – and always with a smile.
Reading can play such a vital role in ensuring that children are equipped for adult life, yet can be such a fun and enjoyable way to spend time. Books you read when you are young often provide memories which last a life time. With so many electronic based ways of spending time, it is ever more important to introduce children to reading as early as possible.
With this in mind, I am delighted to support World Book Day again this year on March 2nd. I will be visiting 3 schools in Swansea East and am looking forward to celebrating World Book Day at –
Trallwn Primary School
Plasmarl Primary
Blaenymaes Primary
