MIKE HEDGES SPENDS RECESS WEEK VISITING LOCAL GROUPS

Swansea East AM, Mike Hedges has spent Assembly Recess week visiting local groups in the area.

Mike said.. ‘people assume that these recess weeks are extra holidays for AM’s – actually, they are good opportunities for me to visit a variety of voluntary sector groups in the area and to attend meetings and events I would be unable to attend on weekdays due to working at the Assembly.

I am aware of the marvellous work undertaken by volunteers who provide such vital opportunities in many of our communities and I have spent this week visiting a number of them.

The Great Ravine clean up in Blaen Y Maes on 20 Feb is a good example of local people, councillors and Gwalia Housing Association working together to enhance their community; I was pleased to visit and support this work.

On Tuesday, I was pleased to visit the ’10 o clock group’ of older Morriston Residents who meet at the Deer’s Leap every Tuesday. I spoke about recent developments in Swansea East, such as the new university developments and new schools.

Later on Tuesday, I visited the Multi-Cultural event held in Blaen Y Maes Community centre.

My week has been packed with such activities and I would like to thank all of the volunteers who give up their time to run such activities. ‘
