Adoption up by a third in Wales

The latest statistics on adoption, outcomes and placements of looked after children have been published, showing an unprecedented 33% in the number of children being adopted in Wales.

The data also reveals an increase in the number of children placed for adoption.  The Welsh Government is aiming to continue to drive up standards and ensure that more children, where adoption is in their best interest, do not drift in the care system.

This can only be achieved by delivering some adoption functions through greater collaboration across regions and sectors. A National Adoption Service is a key commitment for the Welsh Government and will see a greater emphasis on promoting adoption and increasing the pool of adopters.

Wales is also about to embark on yet another unique way of working, championing transformational change in service delivery which will see all sectors working together.

The number of children adopted as of March 2013 was 327 compared to 246 in 2012.
