Mike Hedges AM supports the Ramblers Wales Manifesto. Mike Hedges AM is strongly believes that everyone should have the chance to experience parks, woodlands, mountains and the coastline. In 2012 with the launch of the Wales Coastal Path, Wales became the first country in the world to have a formal trail the whole way around its coast. The 870-mile Path has boosted the Welsh economy, created jobs inspired national pride and received recognition around the world.
The Active Travel (Wales) Bill, introduced by the Welsh Government, places a requirement on local authorities to continuously improve facilities and routes for walkers and cyclists and to prepare maps identifying current and potential future routes for their use. With the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, Wales has been set on a path to help transform our country into an ‘active travel nation’. We face major challenges in securing our nation’s physical and mental well-being, now and that of future generations. Increasing levels of walking and cycling offers a very straightforward way of achieving multiple benefits to help us achieve this.
