Mike Hedges AM WELCOMES news that Summer 2015 saw more tourism success for Wales
Figures published by the Welsh Labour Government have shown that the tourism industry in Wales had a successful summer with figures for the first nine months of 2015 which saw an increase on 2014, itself a record breaking year for Wales.
Mike Hedges said – I welcome the news of a successful year for the Wales Tourist Industry, which plays such a big part in the local Swansea Economy. I look forward to further success in 2016 for this sector through the Year of Adventure scheme.
The Great Britain Tourism Survey shows that between January and September 2015, the total volume of domestic overnight trips to Wales increased by 1.8% in comparison with the January – September 2014.
Expenditure on visits to Wales for the period between January and September 2015 rose by 12% compared to the same period in 2014. The comparable figure for GB as a whole is 10.3%.
Wales’ tourism success is already continuing into 2016 with recognition from the Rough Guide as Wales for one of the top 10 places to visit in 2016, with specific mention to Wales as one of Europe’s finest outdoor playgrounds.
The Welsh Labour Government supported Year of Adventure 2016 will also involve a major marketing campaign going live in UK and Europe at the end of the month.
