MIKE HEDGES AM WELCOMES £5M INVEST TO SAVE FUNDING TO GENERATE £3M OF ANNUAL SAVINGS
Ten new projects across Wales will benefit from £5 million of funding from the Invest to Save scheme during 2015-16, leading to annual estimated savings of £3m for public sector organisations, Welsh Labour’s Finance Minister Jane Hutt has announced.
Mike Hedges AM said… ‘I welcome this investment aimed to save the public purse while at the same time investing in measurers to make people safe in their own homes. I am sure we would all agree that making people’s homes safer for them to live in will benefit both the individuals and the public services which will deal with fewer accidents.’
The Invest to Save fund helps public sector organisations to deliver improvements in frontline services across Wales and generate cash efficiency savings. This latest round of funding includes:
• £280,000 for the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service ‘Safe as Houses’ initiative. The initiative will see a small team, drawn from the health, police, fire and rescue service and local government work collaboratively to target the elderly and vulnerable to minimise health and security risks in their homes. It is expected to reduce accidents, hospital admissions and crime and is projected to generate annual savings of £765,000 per annum.
