News that a Wales’ first ever national adoption service will be launched in November 2014 to speed up the adoption process for children has been given the thumbs up from Labour AM, Mike Hedges.
Earlier this week, Deputy Minister for Social Services Gwenda Thomas confirmed the November launch date of the new service as part of the Welsh Government’s plan to transforming the way social services are delivered throughout Wales.
The main objectives of the new National Adoption Service for Wales will be to promote adoptions, increase the pool of adopters, and ensure good quality post adoption support is available for those who need it.
Welcoming the announcement, Swansea East AM Mike Hedges said:
“Although we’ve seen some good progress in recent years with the number of adoptions on the rise in Wales, there is always room for improvement. After all, we have a duty to our young people in care to give them the best chances in life.
“A key aim of the Social Services Act, which was passed earlier this year, was to set up national adoption service to better help those in search of a permanent home and those looking to give that pavement home. I’m proud to have voted in favour of that Act and I’m also proud that the new adoption service will go live in November to speed up the adoption of children in need of that stable home and loving family.”
