£189m for free bus pass scheme

Funding worth £189million for the Welsh Government’s successful free bus travel scheme has been warmly welcomed by Swansea East AM, Mike Hedges.

The new three-year package, announced by Transport Minister Edwina Hart, follows an independent review of how bus operators should be reimbursed for offering free travel to more than 720,000 concessionary pass holders in Wales, including Armed forced personnel and veterans.

The Welsh Government has ensured that older or disabled persons resident in Wales have been able to travel free on local bus services throughout Wales since 2022. In 2011, this was extended this to include Armed Forces personnel and veterans.
