MIKE HEDGES MS COMMEMORATES NATIONAL WORKPLACE MEMORIAL DAY

Speaking from his Morriston office, local Swansea East Senedd member Mike Hedges said…. ‘ it is important that we remember those who have gone off to work and not returned. They gave their lives going about their work and didn’t go home. We all remember mining disasters, but there are other places in my local area where people have died in work – metal workers in years gone by and others more recently in  places such as St Thomas. It is important we remember these workers and think of their families at times like this.

It is also a time to remember the work done by Trade Unions to improve work place safety – next time you use PPE in work or put your hand on a rail to steady yourself, just remember that it is likely that those safety features were put in place following pressure from a Trade Union.

If there is a Union in your place of work – JOIN IT!

Note

Established in 2019, National Workplace Memorial Day takes place on December 12 each year. It is a time to remember everyone who has lost their life in a work place, whatever their job, what ever their industry – they have served our economy and given the ultimate sacrifice for our economy. Stop working at 12 noon for 1 minutes silence to remember those who have died in work place accidents.
