Labour’s Swansea East AM Mike Hedges has welcomed today’s announcement from Virgin Media on their plans to create around 230 new jobs at it’s contact centre in Swansea.
The communications company, which already employs 900 customer support and technical staff in Swansea, are expanding their business operations in order to help meet the growing demand for next generation television and broadband services.
Speaking on Virgin Media’s announcement, Swansea AM Mike Hedges said:
“I’m delighted that Virgin Media have made a decision to expand their operations and create an extra 230 new jobs here in Swansea to meet the growing demand for its services. This is exciting news for our City and will be a real boost for the local job market and economy.
“In recent years, Virgin Media has made an important contribution to the local economy in Swansea. With the company already employing around 900 local people in Swansea, today’s announcement further reinforces Swansea’s reputation as a great place to do business.”
Swansea East MP, Sian James, added:
“This is really excellent news. It is so refreshing to see a company making a local investment instead of moving jobs overseas.”
