A Welsh Government sponsored programme which aims to share and support best practice guidance from Wales’ top performing schools has received the backing of Labour’s Swansea East AM, Mike Hedges.
The “Lead and Emerging Practitioner Schools” programme, which was launched earlier this week by Education Minister Leighton Andrews, is designed to share best practice and leadership expertise from high performing primary and secondary schools with schools that have made efforts to improve performance with limited success.
The high performing ‘Lead Practitioner school’ will work with the ‘Emerging Practitioner school’ for a period of up to 18 months to help put in place the reforms and mechanisms needed to deliver sustained improvement.
Speaking on the programme, Mike Hedges AM said:
“It’s important that best practice guidance and performance improvement techniques are shared across the board between high performing schools and less successful schools to ensure that standards are raised and that our children receive the very best education possible.
“The Welsh Government’s Lead and Emerging Practitioner Schools programme recognises this and aims to support and improve standards in both primary and secondary schools throughout Wales.
“I would encourage any Swansea school that feels they have something to contribute to sign-up to this programme and share their expertise with other Welsh schools that are eager to learn from their success.”
Education Minister, Leighton Andrews, said:
“I have made a clear commitment to raising performance in our schools across the board. To be the best you have to learn from the best.”
