£2.3m boost for childcare

This month, the Welsh Labour Government announced that funding worth £2.3 million was being made available to help local councils provide quality, affordable child care during out of school hours.

The “Out of School Childcare” grant will help local authorities assist families who wish to access childcare before and after the school day. It will provide all local councils with additional funds to coordinate and provide care for children, helping parents and carers to work, train or study for future employment.

As well as childcare, the funding can be used to support holiday clubs and play schemes during the school holidays, to also support working parents. Under the funding allocation, Swansea Council will receive around £165,000 to support existing care and introduce new childcare provisions.
